What about feeding our animals human food like they do in Europe? Pet stores say it is not good.

Feeding animals human food.

You may certainly feed "human food" if you desire. The key is in the preparation. Uncooked foods would be the best choice. Cooking foods can result in the loss or availability of valuable nutrients and enzymes via the denaturing caused by the heating process.

Many people in the U.S. feed table scraps. The problem with this in the U.S. is that Americans tend to like food flavored with a higher amount of fat content and if it is a pre-packaged dish, likely preservatives as well. Fat directly initiates the pancreas causing illness and of course is more likely to lead to obesity.

As I have been told by European’s "human food" in the form of table scraps generally has less fat content and is probably prepared "more advantageously" than "human food" here in the U.S.

Although main stream commercial pet foods have their drawbacks, they are still a better choice than the average offering of American "human food", remember the key is in what is being fed and how has it been prepared and balanced with. Supplements such as enzymes, vitamins, minerals, etc. There are many resources available for preparation of homemade diets as well as commercially prepared foods without preservatives and from organically grown food sources (both animal and plant).

Hope this has helped.
